A happy time was had and lovely daughters
made my all time favourite carrot cake
(I have new needles too which I'll show you next time)
❀
...and here's my new yarn swift....actually my new best friend...
your loved ones will be forever grateful for this too :-)
If you haven't seen one before it's a simple and
very practical Amish design...easy to use then pack away...

with a non-slip base so it will sit firmly on a table top
while spinning around.
while spinning around.
It's made by ChiaoGoo
and you can find it here and lots of other places online
Basically a wheel with pegs to slot in to fit your skein size
(all the sizes are clearly marked)
and whether winding by hand or using a yarn winder
(like the one here in the sidebar)
it's very quick and efficient...much better I think
than using an umbrella version (cheaper too)
...and it beats using the back of a chair any day
when there's no one around to lend a hand :-)

...which means I'm all ready to make my aran sweater
(no...I haven't even started it yet...but I am very much
looking forward to making it when I have some quiet time..so it's all good
and it may become a perfect winter project :-) )

Good morning Susan! By chance, I refreshed my page and there was your new post. Luckily, I caught it before I had to go off to school.

DeleteHello Susan
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes ...missed your last post ...just too much going on here :-) Mmmm carrot cake one of my favourites too!
How about that sometimes the old ways are the best and they do say the Amish are very practical people. Actually I had never heard of a Yarn swift before!

DeleteSear Susann, that carrot cake looks so delocious -am sure it was very yummy! I want ti ask, if you could send me some high res. images of your tearoom dolls. I thought i could present them in the coming issue of iur magazine, KidsLfe. I'd publish a link to your Etsy shop, so redaers can get instructions. Are you interested? Let me know! Best wishes for a happy day, M.

Karen x
I hope you had a wonderful Birthday Susan!! Carrot cake is one of my faves too :) The cake your daughters made looks so yummy :)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I visit your blog it makes me really wish I could knit. Your dolls are too adorable for words :) Hugs ♥ Vicky ♥
I'm so glad you had a nice birthday. Such pretty photos of your special day. Your swift is beautiful, enjoy it. I've been thinking lately that I'd like to have one someday so it's nice to have a good recommendation. Hope you have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos as always. And that cake looks scrummy.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar swift, but mine is not marked with skein sizes. How useful to have one that is.
I so wish I could come visit you at Alexander Palace, Susan! How exciting! Many, many moons ago, when I was still living in England, I visited my favourite teddy bear designer there. Oh, the display of Christmas themed bears she had made. I had commissioned a special Jack Frost bear, which I still love to bits, and in addition I purchased one of Santa's Elves AND a Snowflake bear too.
ReplyDeleteAnd breathe...
I usually wind my skeins of yarn on two dining table chairs but I must confess a swift would be so very appreciated in our home!
Happy Autumn to you dear Susan. And happy knitting too.
Stephanie
I'm just discovering your blog and I like it !!! So belated happy birthday and I wish you a great show ! Wish you a lovely week end !
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just beautiful, I so enjoyed them all! I am glad you had a lovely birthday with such delicious cake and gorgeous flowers, dear Susan. Your yarn winder is a marvellous idea.....every knitter should have one :) congratulations on your sweet doll kits, they will have reached many more people now and I am sure they will be amazingly popular.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very happy week ahead.
Helen xox
Beautiful dolls, sweet and gentle!
ReplyDeletehappy birthday Susan. Your yarn winder is great, and much better than trying to use a chair or door or on your own. My friend at school had a granny with dementia who was happy to sit for hours whilst wool was wound.
ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch up, so a belated Happy Birthday to you. xx
ReplyDeletePrecious Susan! HOW fabulous it is to see you here again, as I just read your kind comment. Thank you for visiting! I bet you are super busy with your art to get ready for the holidays! Have all the fun your dear heart can hold....big hugs from across the ocean, Anita
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, Susan. In our home it's two October babies, our son and myself, and we had loads of fun celebrating last month.
ReplyDeleteAlways dreamy stopping by to catch up on your beautiful creations.
Much love!
A belated Happy Birthday to you! Just stopping by to snoop around and see if I have missed anything new...LOL! This is such a happy little nook, I do love visiting you:-) Take care! Suzanne
