Summertime and Peppermint Tea...

(Hmm...I don't think he's too happy that I'm moving his quilt :-) )
Yesterday, I took a few more pics of my summer quilt (which I've previously posted about here, here and here)...and it's now ready to be put to good use...I've loved making this quilt ...a very simple and relaxing project...using 5 x 5" squares (charm packs plus some squares cut from my magic cupboard fabrics) secured by 'stitching in the ditch' (oh yes, I love that those stitches just can't be seen...makes me very happy )...with a deep quilted border made by first sketching a design all the way around then stitching with my walking foot...and lastly I added the hand sewn binding (the stripy fabric above is the backing fabric) The bedroom it will probably reside in is currently being redecorated...lots of white...and I think this will be a lovely splash of colour when the room's finished ;-)
I was planning to call it my 'Summertime' quilt but as I took my pics yesterday and sipped my peppermint tea (more below) I noticed that there's actually quite a large dose of peppermint amongst these happy colours and so I've decided it's going to be known as my 'Peppermint Tea' quilt... it will connect my quilt with happy memories...

...anyone for peppermint tea?...

...eldest lovely daughter brought my tea all the way home
from the beautiful Charlottesville house of
Thomas Jefferson in Virginia...
(more about Thomas Jefferson and 'Monticello' here
it's definitely an interesting read :-)  )
I wonder...have you tried peppermint tea and do you like it?
(it's known 'to soothe both body and spirit'...it's a yes from me...
...I do need to be more adventurous with my tea......
if you have a recommendation would you let me know?

...back soon...

...happy making...

  1. I love tea. Earl Grey for its individuality - special occasions. Lady Grey, I used to drink at work without milk, has a mild orangey flavour. I do not drink coffee and anytime my favoured beverage is tea! Any sort of tea as long as it is tea!
    Gorgeous quilt, love the colours

  4. Oh Susan, GOOD MORNING! Lovely Monticello, how I remember vacationing near there one year......and your quilts are beautifully photographed!

OK, peppermint tea is one of my favorites.Let me tell you what I do with it.....I take one bag of peppermint and another bag of either a vanilla tea OR A CHOCOLATE BLEND! Then I add milk, of course. And this makes for a lovely ICED tea as well! It is good for the stomach on its own in the morning too....enjoy it my dear! Anita

  5. peppermint tea quilt is a great name for our quilt. We were in Charleston and Savannah last summer, peppermint tea is so redolent of the deep south. There's a lovely series of light mystery books called the Tea Shop Mysteries that I love set there. Your quilt will be beautiful in a room of mainly white.

    2. Hello Susan,
Your quilt is just wonderful, and what an evocative name you have chosen for it - the Peppermint Tea Quilt brings to mind lots of sunshine, warmth and hazy summertime days.
I only ever drink herbal or fruit teas these days, after a health scare a few years ago, and find them so calming and refreshing. Have you tried green tea with jasmine, raspberry leaf with echinacea or making your own infusion using lemon balm from the garden? Just lovely!
Take care, and have a wonderful new week.
      Love from
      Lynda.

  18. Delightful name for your delightful quilt, Susan. I love it. It's very cheery, and sewn so beautifully - as always. I enjoy just looking at a pretty creation after completion for a while...do you? It will certainly add a happy splash of color in its permanent room.

Your daughter was so sweet to give you the tea. Our children are a blessing, indeed.

  23. Dearest Susan! Good morning! It was lovely to see your comment just now, as I prepare for a lovely day in my garden! I hear that out in Europe it is warmer than normal? OH MY......well in the states, our temps are varied. Out in the northwest, they are getting a lot of heat, but here we are a bit cooler. We don't get off that easy though; we had a hail storm two days ago that ripped up our plants to shreds. But we move on and hope that those plants will strive, survive and THRIVE!

    Enjoy your day! Anita
